About Bank Season
A markets and financial news platform for people who manage serious money themselves, and who want the reasoning behind a number rather than the adjective attached to it.
Bank Season covers markets, the economy, companies and policy with the working assumption that our reader already knows what a yield curve is. We publish the reasoning, the source of every number, and the part of the argument that could turn out to be wrong. The house style is plain: active sentences, concrete nouns, and figures that carry their unit and their origin.
The publication takes its name and its heritage line, the future of finance and freedom, from the idea that financial independence is mostly a function of understanding what you own. That is an editorial position, not a sales pitch. We do not run price targets, we do not publish recommendations, and we do not tell anyone what to buy.
Who we write for
The reader we have in mind runs their own portfolio, or oversees someone who runs it for them, and has enough at stake to want the second paragraph rather than the headline. They read a Treasury auction result the way other people read a box score. They are comfortable with uncertainty and impatient with confidence that has nothing behind it.
That reader is badly served at both ends of the market. Retail financial media sells excitement and a subscription to the next idea. Institutional terminals sell completeness at a price and in a dialect that assumes you spend nine hours a day inside them. Bank Season sits between the two: institutional standards of sourcing and arithmetic, written in English.
What we refuse to do
- Publish a number without saying where it came from and what date it is good as of.
- Run sponsored content that is designed to be mistaken for journalism.
- Let an advertiser, a partner or a Calder client see a story before publication.
- Issue buy, sell or hold recommendations, or price targets of any kind.
- Quote an anonymous source who is only protecting their own position rather than their livelihood.
- Quietly rewrite a published story. Substantive changes get a dated correction at the foot of the piece.
Ownership and funding
Bank Season is owned outright by Calder, a media technology company based in New York. There is no outside investor, no private equity sponsor and no strategic stake held by a bank, brokerage, exchange or asset manager. If that ever changes, the disclosure will appear on this page and at the foot of every article on the day the change takes effect.
Revenue comes from reader subscriptions and from advertising that is sold, produced and labelled separately from the newsroom. The commercial team has no input into what we cover, and the newsroom has no revenue target. The full breakdown, including our affiliate policy and the rules on what a Bank Season journalist may personally own, is set out on the how we make money page.
